Welcome to the Author of the Month for April, appropriately enough, Dayton, Ohio’s own April Wilson. If you’re looking for a steamy romantic read, her novels meet the expectations! Warning: X-rated content!
What drew you to writing?
I fell in love with books when I was a young child. I loved going to the library to look at books, even before I could read. When I was about ten years old, I decided that being an author had to be the best job in the whole world. I still think that. What draws me to writing so much is that the characters in my head become real to me, and I feel like I can inhabit the worlds in which they live. When I’m writing, I see a movie playing in my head, and I simply capture that movie into words, and voila! A novel is born.
What authors have influenced you?
The authors who have inspired my writing are Sylvia Day, Julie Kenner, EL James, Diana Gabaldon, Jex Lane, Laurelin Paige, just to name a few.
Can you describe your writing process?
What is my writing process? Well, I think it’s very fluid, very organic, and very emotional. I’m a pantser, not an outliner – I write by the seat of my pants. My books begin with an idea – the beginning – and I usually know the ending, but the stuff that happens in the middle is very organic and unfolds on its own. My books usually end up around 90-130k words, so I like big books. It takes me about 3-4 months to write the full, complete draft, then another 1-2 months to edit and and proofread.
What books have you read more than once?
What book have I read more than once? I’ve read a lot of books more than once. I’d say the books I’ve read the most frequently are the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day.
Just for fun:
My favorite comfort food is macaroni and cheese.
My reward is ice cream.
