What drew you to writing?
I have always loved to read, and I dreamed about wanting to write a book. My career didn’t allow me the time, until the day my husband, Ed, asked me to quit work and travel with him. I told him my dream, and he said, “Sounding exciting. Do it!”
What authors have you read that had the most influence on your writing?
There are so many. Mary Ellis, Janet Oke, Shelley Sheppard Gray, and I could go on and on. I read romance, suspense, and mysteries. My critique partners, Patty Campbell and DJ Welker are authors and friends who edit my work, and I value their opinions. We make quite a team, and I’m very grateful for them. Readers encourage and inspire me to write. I enjoy getting better acquainted with them through Facebook parties, speaking engagements, and social media. They make writing fun!
What is your writing process?
I spend about three hours a day on marketing, and about three hours on writing. I sometimes spend more on one or the other depending on traveling for speaking engagements. Ideas swirl in my head in the shower or when it is inconvenient (three o’clock in the morning)! I stumble to find a pen and write down the ideas, and then go back to sleep. Months later, the story comes alive like a movie, and it’s so exciting. I edit the story, and hit send to the editor. It’s a wonderful moment!
