SUSPENSE & MYSTERY

What Can I Do?

In this most roiling political climate, the question arises about what actions we can take individually and as  a group, to effect positive change and protect our democracy. After all, I am only one person without a million dollar bank account and no real power.

I am not unaware of the climate in which we are living. I acknowledge that bullying instills fear, that threats of violence to ourselves and our families can be used to dissuade us from speaking out. Then I remember the heroes from our past who, in non-violent ways – stood for the right. Ghandi. Mother Theresa. Rosa Parks. Martin Luther King. Jesus.

And that is where I begin…by believing that even one small action can start a landslide. If ten, a hundred, a thousand, a million of us each take one action, imagine the effect.

Take a stand.

Do not acquiesce in advance.

Volunteer at a charity of your choice.

Do what is within your comfort zone.

Step outside your comfort zone.

Attend meetings, protests, activist actions.

Believe in the greater good.

Be kind.

Find your ‘tribe,’ those who believe that what is good and right is non-partisan.

We are one nation, under God, and a republic, if we can keep it.

Thank you for being you and do some one thing.
