SUSPENSE & MYSTERY

Falling For Fiction!

The abundance of leaves already on the ground invites the kid in me to scuff through them. I can’t resist the urge as I listen to the crunch and imagine myself off on an adventure with hobbits, attending a ball in Bath with Jane Austen, or practicing archery with Catniss. Fiction offers so many amazing escapes, and the bigger the volume, the better the read! This outlook explains why I gravitate to fiction first. I’m a storyteller who loves stories.

Any well-written novel will capture my attention. Although I prefer a science fiction or romantasy, I dip my toes in many waters. My stroll through lit this autumn includes the following in progress or on the shelf waiting for me:

In progress right now:

Amber Road   Sherry Christie

Not Quite Dead Yet    Holly Jackson

Reminscences    Levi Coffin

On the shelf:

Devil’s Kitchen    Candice Fox

A Case of Life and Limb     Sally Smith

A Case of Mice and Murder    Sally Smith

Fleishman Is In Trouble    Taffy Brodesser-Akner

The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store    James McBride

The Nature of the Place    Ed Kanze

Rachel McMillan    any of her books!

On Order at the Library:  Too many to list!

While my reading tastes vary, one thing remains constant – good writing is good writing, no matter the genre. So when I purchase a book that is poorly conceived and written, it depresses me. I recently had that experience and wrote a review on Goodreads. Too bad I didn’t read all the comments on that site (I relied on the publisher’s recommendations) before I bought the book. It is never my intention to disrespect any authors, but I believe readers should have an honest appraisal of a work. Saying a book is a great read when it is anything but does a disservice to the public.

Anyway, the temps persist in mimicking summer, the porch remains comfy and inviting, and the books, the books are calling!  Send me a note and tell me what you’re reading this month.
